When Chevrolet introduced the current Silverado 1500 in 2018, the internet erupted with various opinions—not many of which were positive. That’s not surprising for the anonymous web world, but it’s clear that the super-slender headlights, big air intakes, and prominent grille form a busy fascia that deviates greatly from the traditional, boxier Chevy front ends of yesteryear.
There’s good news on the horizon, however, for those who couldn’t develop a fondness for the current Silverado. According to GM Authority, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will receive a comprehensive mid-cycle update for 2022, with less odd styling and a host of small changes inside and out.
The most notable update should come to the front end. A basic line drawing of the 2022 Silverado’s front end posted on GM Authority allegedly reflects what the new front fascia will look like. If the leaked image is anywhere near reality, expect less complexity and a slight return to a more traditional, handsomer Chevy truck styling of the past. But is it more palatable?
Notice that the prominent air-curtain vents would be replaced by smaller, square air intake vents directly below the headlights, impacting the design of the bumper and front fenders—which just might “fix” the whole front end. It’s hard to tell exactly what the lighting setup would look like, but it appears to be a C-shaped variant of what already exists. New grille inserts and badging would accompany the front end changes.
An interior overhaul is also rumored for the Chevrolet Silverado’s somewhat lackluster cabin, with a revised center stack, dash, and center console. The Silverado will also (allegedly) drop the column-mounted shifter in favor of some other type of gear selector. Super Cruise, the semi-autonomous driving system, could become an option.
